The farm has a great variety of organically-grown vegetables and a number of indigenous plants with medicinal benefits. The Brenes family also runs an organic dairy operation with holstein cows that graze on the farms great pastures. Nothing is left to waste on the farm, as the Brenes family uses the cow manure as fuel for cooking through biogas technology. This alternative "green" fuel is made from the anaerobic digestion of the cow manure in a tank called a biodigester. When at the farm you can see how this amazing contraption works. By integrating all of these healthy, environment-friendly techniques into its production, the Finca Modelo really is a model farm.
